Lauren’s Story
I'm Lauren Florio, a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in neurodiversity.
As someone who was late diagnosed autistic and ADHD it is so important to me that the core of my practice is a deep commitment to supporting individuals with neurodiversity.
My approach is rooted in neurodiversity-centering principles, ensuring that therapy is tailored to honor each person's unique experiences and strengths. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for skill building, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma processing, and Somatic Therapy for mind-body connection.
Lauren'S MAIN FOCUS
Autism & ADHD Assessments
For those seeking Autism and or ADHD assessments, I offer more than just clinical expertise—I provide a compassionate and understanding approach that comes from a place of shared experience.
I am also proud to offer PDA assessments as an add-on to Autism and ADHD assessments, for individuals who may experience heightened anxiety and demand avoidance as part of their neurodivergent profile. I understand how intense a PDA response is, it feels like NO! It can be misunderstood as being difficult. As PDA can often go unrecognized, I am committed to helping clients identify and understand this aspect of their behavior so they can receive the right support.
In addition, I understand firsthand the overwhelming impact of sensory processing difficulties. As someone who struggles intensely with sensory sensitivities, I offer Sensory assessments, Sensory Processing Measure 2 (SPM-2), an additional tool to further customize your treatment and accommodations.
Sensory processing issues are often intertwined with both Autism and ADHD. Sensory processing issues can trigger high levels of dissociation and dysregulation, which affects our ability to regulate day-to-day. My goal is to provide a thorough assessment that addresses the full scope of neurodivergence.
For clients who experience difficulty identifying and expressing emotions, I also offer Alexithymia assessments as an add-on. Alexithymia, or the inability to recognize, describe, and fully feel one's emotions, is a common experience for many neurodivergent individuals, particularly those on the autism spectrum. Understanding this aspect of emotional processing can be crucial in learning to manage relationships, stress, and mental health challenges more effectively.
