Blaze’s Story

I’m Barbara Lazarony; however, everyone calls me Blaze.

After a humble start in rural Ohio, I spent two decades climbing the corporate ladder until finally achieving success at its peak - managing $2.5 billion in sales across 42 locations and leading executive teams with my sassy job title. From farm to Fortune 500, this small-town girl reached impressive heights while gazing down on Market Street from my ample office windows in San Francisco!

Despite the hustle and bustle of life, I should have noticed that my body was trying to tell me something wasn't quite right. Sure enough, in 2003, it became impossible to ignore: my doctor diagnosed me with thyroid cancer—a wake-up call if there ever was one! It prompted a much-needed lifestyle change; resigning was an essential first step toward recovery.

After a long journey of personal growth and healing, I made the bold step to launch my own business as an Advanced Certified Integral Coach. My passion for supporting others led me on an unexpected path: starting grad school at age fifty-three! With eighteen years of coaching experience and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, I'm ready to take this career adventure to new heights.

I wish I had been told twenty years ago that I had both an acquired and genetic form of neurodiversity; I had to find out on my own that my brain was wired differently. I don't have Autism or ADHD, but I was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Anxiety, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I manage my condition today with medication, therapy, and creating systems to honor all of who I am. I've found that my OCD diagnosis helps me dive deep into the details of helping clients with assessments!

I believe receiving an accurate diagnosis can set you free, like having a light-bulb moment of awareness! It can help you to understand yourself better, embrace your uniqueness, and help you learn how to manage what others may refer to as your "quirks." However, a diagnosis can also bring up grief, shame, and sadness. So, in addition to providing an ASD and/or ADHD assessment, I also offer therapy to help you integrate your diagnosis, navigate daily life, and help you become the person you've always wanted to be.

Main Areas of Focus

Adult Autism Spectrum Difference (ASD) & Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD) Assessments

I specialize in offering neurodiversity-supportive assessments and therapeutic services that enable individuals to reach their highest potential.

My comprehensive process includes administering questionnaires, engaging in discussions, making observations, and evaluating adults who may be on the Autism Spectrum or present with ADHD. This includes utilizing tools such as the MIDAS-2 and SRS-2 for Autism, as well as CAARS and Brown EF/A scales for ADHD.

Working together, we will explore your unique traits as an individual who may be living with Autism and/or ADHD, recognizing the immense value of a diagnosis for you to achieve success and fulfillment. I understand that neurodiverse individuals face additional challenges in their everyday lives; since I am neurodiverse myself. My diagnosis helped me better understand myself, both personally and professionally!

I also offer support, understanding, and resources to my clients and their families through the assessment process. My goal is to take a holistic view of each individual, assessing their specific strengths and difficulties from various perspectives. I am eager to be an ally in your corner as you navigate this journey through an adult Autism and ADHD assessment.

And if you decide to continue working with me as your therapist after your assessment, no matter what your diagnosis is, we'll first work on capitalizing on your strengths.  Next, we will help you develop a greater sense of self-worth and build upon your abilities to navigate the world around you. Throughout our therapeutic journey together, I am dedicated to helping you discover new ways of being that lead toward growth, progress, and lasting change.

Neurodiverse Couples Therapy & Coaching

As a seasoned marriage and family therapist, I am passionately dedicated to providing clients with neurodiverse relationships with the tools they need for successful communication and growth.

I understand the unique challenges that neurologically diverse couples face in their relationships. I have four decades of real-life experience being together with my partner and navigating the challenges of marriage, including loss, the death of loved ones, grief, financial issues, health challenges, and even being separated for two years. I also have clinical training in counseling psychology.

My approach is both evidence-based and holistic. I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges that neurodiverse couples face. My approach combines practical strategies with an empathetic ear and an understanding heart. My mission is to help all couples discover the joys of being in a relationship and embrace their unique differences and individuality.

I intend to create a therapeutic environment where each partner feels heard, validated, accepted, respected, and understood by the other. Together, we will work towards creating healthier communication patterns that honor both partners’ individual needs while building intimacy through vulnerability & acceptance.
